Hi everyone,
Another interesting topic - Shen Tar.
Do you believe in Shen Tar or Tan Ki.
I attended a "International Pentjak Silat Exhibition" here and a group from Java Timur did some stuffs that really freaked me out.
This was a "Bar Tin" group - almost like Shen Tai in CKF.
I hear some Hakka Kung Fu has this in their systems.
Very popular in the 70s and 80s but quiet these days.

I have never seen it myself, but I have a good friend that I trust who has experienced it and said it was the most amazing thing.

Hi,
Got a CD with these weird stuff.
Got to find it first - I have hundreds of Cds in my library here in Kuching. More in my Singapore's apartment.
The Indon thing that they did, besides eating glass and hitting themselves on the head with iron bars :-
They got people from the audience to come down. The performance was done in an amphitheatre kind setting.
They blindfolded a few students and I am talking a few layers of thick cloth - no way to see through. I was a volunteer checking the blindfolding making sure there is no cheating - hehehe
The volunteer were told to stand where ever they like. About 20 volunteers I think. These blindfolded students just ran in and out without touching any one of the volunteers - freaky.
One even rode a bicycle through the human maze without contact.

Amulets, spiritualism has always had a strong influence on many ancient & traditional martial arts. And many martial fighters believe that true power comes from having a strong spiritual link that will manifest itself in physical form through the fighter. m Many great fighters have strong spiritualism, the Knights Templar, the Jihads, the Boxer rebellion of 1900 in China, the Juremendado of southern Philippines, voodoism in Jamaica & many many more. "Faith can move mountains" Some public demo of spiritual martial art are "mind bogging" others are stunt & some are fake.

Hi, Actually we are all talking about non-MA Shen Tar. Amulets, hu papers and stuffs are common throughout SE Asia with common folks. I am more interested in CKF Shen Tar. They do all that ritualistic routine and go into a trance-like state and start doing Kung Fu !!! I've seen Monkey Kung Fu, Kwang Kong, and even White Crane done in this manner. There is a "White Crane God" that some folks worship in certain temples in Singapore. The funny ( ) thing is, they do look like they are doing peho - the kind that I know. The Truth Is Out There.

Da jia ni men hao Sigh, well to be honest actually I try not to discuss this topic But seems you guys never let me in serenity. I am not bragging, long before some of you were born, this "kebathinan" things was my daily routines. This got nothing to do with martial arts. It's more into religious and spiritual. Every ethnic has their own way in doing this "amazing" stuff. But the most well known are what they call debus(west Jawa) and reog (east Jawa). These things made me travelling many parts of the countries. In search of the "clever" men To those think these are tricks or fake, better prove it personally. It's interesting even sometimes scarry. Cheers.

Hi Suhana,
Nin Hao,
Is it true that they do all sorts of ceremonies to sacrifice animals etc........
What about this paper-horse dance thing - Indon right ?
I remember watching this and the "dancers' all looked dazed, like in a trance.
A man cracking his whip seemed to be directing the dancers.
And some in the audience, standing in a circle, would drop and go in a spasm-like twitching all over.

They are riding the paper horse, but actually they are in trance condition and they believe the "horse spirit" inside the players. And the man with the whip, he is the master of the show, who" controls" everything. As the horse is controlled by the whip, that's why he carries whip. Eating glass (usually from the bulb or other thin glass) actually like eating crackers. Nice, you should try for yourself to believe. In kebathinan world, this kind of show actually the basic or elementary level. There are plenty with more amazing and hard to believe attraction in the advance level. Some of them do the sacrify, but some don't. Cheers.
