Hi folks, Spoke about this before; Sarawak is really a “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon” kind of place. With its large Fuzhou and Hakka communities, it is not unexpected to find “Hidden Dragons” as far as traditional CKF is concerned. I had the privilege of meeting and discussing CKF with a Hakka Zhu Jia Jiao Master recently; GM Law Kaw Chai. Really, sitting face to face and talking Kung Fu with someone who has been doing it longer than you lived is an extraordinary experience. I was busy absorbing everything he got to tell me! I will be posting more details about GM Law and his Hakka Zhu Jia Jiao in the coming weeks. In the meantime, pictures of a young GM Law. Picture courtesy of Chester Lim, Chairman of Chinese Martial Arts Association Kuching Sarawak.

Hi Eric. Looking forward to see more on the Chu Gar in sarawak, is there any other hakka arts in sarawak? sean Yes. According to folks around here, Sarawak used to be loaded with Hakka/Fuzhou CKF experts. There is even a Yong Chun White Crane school in Miri. Well, Sarawak CKF scene is hardly reported in any magazines published in Hong Kong or Taiwan - so there is very little out flow of info from here. Thanks.

A few days/ week ago someone launched a question about the main stance in Pak Mei, if it was a Yee Tji Kim Yeung Ma. Did try to find that letter but could not find the question back. Therefore I attach the picture and answer to this section. As you can see, four different teachers/ grandmasters doing the basic Pak Mei form known as Jik Bo Kien. The idea is to look at those stances and observe of the toes of both feet are pointing in. As you see this is not the case. The second teacher (from the left) is Sifu Kong Mien Ho, just before the 'Mui Fa' turn. His left foot is slightly turned inward, but this have to deal with the rotation of the body and the Tigerclaw pull. Jik Bo is rather a representative form, if not a VERY important set. Gau Bu have some nice skills, Sap Paat Mor Kiu and Mang Fu Chut Lam are very interesting but more Hakka orientated then Pak Mei. This is strictly my own personal conclusion. Jik Bu present - in a very GOOD way, the six Externals (Lok Geng) and the Four Internal Power (Sei Noi Bui Geng). And therefore representative for the system (IMHO). Warm regards, Evert.

Yes, I have a few hundreds old magazines from the 70s/80s. Mainly talking about Cantonese/Hakka boxing systems. Over time, I will be sharing these with all. I don’t have a scanner myself; I am using a digital camera. Got to convince my wife to allow a scanner but first got to beat her in Kung Fu…hahahaha Kong Xi Fa Chai.

Tai Chor - Southern Tai Chor. White Crane - I did a few different streams. Mainly Fuzhou. I also picked up a little Hung Gar/Praying Mantis and Chou Jia. Skimming surface only. Thanks.
