I must admit, as a kid learning CKF, I used to buy every single magazine published in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Hak Fu and Hung Fut are the 2 styles that really intrigue me. More so because they are so rare in Singapore where I grew up. Reading about these in magazines was the only way to glimpse into these 2 systems. I am essentially a Fukien kung fu player but I am also very closely acquainted with many Cantonese Kung Fu players. Mainly from styles like Hung,Lau,Choy,Li,Mok,Chou,Lama and Choy Li Fut. Got much from associating with those folks. Now I hope to learn from someone like you. Thank you. And again, Welcome.

does this include lao fu tze and lisiaolong comics magazine? ;-) Hey Pit, There were many "SERIOUS" kung fu mag in the 60s,70s,80s and even up till the 90s published mainly in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Names like Wu Than, Wu Lin Tien Ti (just like this forum), Xin Wu Shia, Than Shou etc etc... Many of these are collectors' items now. Most Hong Kong mag focused on Cantonese and Hakka styles and Taiwanese like to report on Fukien/Fuzhou styles. Like I said, these are proper CKF mag with tons of info on history, principles and forms. For instance, did you know that your NCK is so rare in Hong Kong that there were only 1 or 2 schools there in the 70s ? And the Sifu was from "Kim Men" in Fukien. I will get a scanner in Singapore (going back on the 11th of this month) and I will scan/post some of these old pix when I come back. I am sure many will find these "vintage" picture enjoyable. I think Evert got a big collection also. Ps..My wife was telling me I must have close to 3000 books and mag, 1000 videos and Cds and the collection is still growing. I think she is hinting for me to stop. ;D ;D ;D

Yes Yes Yes, I read LaoFuZi mags too. Also all the early days "Wang Lang" kung fu comix. Not as glossy as some of the newer stuffs - Wang is no longer drawing himself, he has hired staff to do this. But early days Wang Lang like "Little Rascals" comix came packed with good kung fu techniques. Like "Flying Dragon in the Sky" kicks etc... There was even a Wong Fei Hung comix once. Very short life but at the back cover of every issue, the author would include a actual kung fu tecnique from Hung Gar. The real thing. I don't read comix that much though. Mainly Wu Xia novel like Ku Lung etc..... Many of these novels are being adapted into movies, tv series etc... I heard some of these are even being translated into English ;D

Hi, I am a 23-year-old Yang-style Taiji practitioner residing in Washington State, USA. I have had exposure to Chinese Martial Arts my whole life. My father and brother practice Hung Gar and Choy Li Fut styles. When I was younger I was shown basic techniques, but as children are wont to do, I had very little patience and follow-through to learn these systems. Beginning at the age of 16, I studied Yang-style Taiji and Tao Tan Pai Qigong in Louisiana, USA after being exposed to some Eastern Philosophy. In my spare time, I enjoy music, art, poetry, physics, speculation, and of course, gongfu. It is my hope to connect with like-minded individuals and true practitioners of all styles throughout the world in an effort to gain perspective on what I have learned. If any of what I have gained so far is of any value, I hope to do the same for whomever may be interested. It's truly an honor to be amongst you.

Hi Jeff, Yes, I do have quite a collection of magazines published in HK in the 70s and 80s. And this includes New Wu Lin, Wu Xia etc. Your Black Tiger and Hung Fut were covered in some issues. I have most of these mag in my Singapore apartment and I will try and bring some back here (Kuching Sarawak) after my next trip there. Okay, first request from me:- Could you tell us more about Hung Fut's "4 Disabled" form. Is this a Hsing (external mimicry) or Yi (internal intent) inspired form? Are there any 'emotional" triggers in this form kind of like Tit Sin Kuen and Xi Nu Lohan (happy and angry Lohan). Looking forward to your reply. Thank you very much.
