Hi essence,
Thank you for your reply. Now welcome to the family. If you’ve read my recent posts, you must realize how important it is for me not to be talking to strangers. Again, thank you.
Yes, you are too young to be in my age group. I am 45 hahahaha. But, in Chang Ziang, it is the rear waves that push the fore waves.
I come from the other end of the island, Tampines.
A while back, there was a club named “Chien Xin” or “Sword Heart” in Geylang doing Ang Koon.
2 other places with Hung Gar are:-
Kong Chow Hui Koon – this is the building right opposite Pearl’s Centre, the building next to Outram MRT. As recent as 4-5 years ago, they are still running Hung Gar classes. I am very close to the Chow (Chou) Gar group and GM Lee Kam Yuen. It is through GM Lee that I met the Hung Gar’s group there.
Won Mong San is another Hung Gar club. Not sure if they are still active but you can find their club house in the shop houses opposite the sub-court near People’s Park. This was one time a huge Hung Gar group in Singapore.
I got the 2 books published by the Singapore National Pugilistic Association that list all the style and clubs. There must be hundreds of names in one of them. I am sure I can find some Hung Gar lineages recorded. Only problem is I am in Sarawak now and those books are in my Singapore apartment.
But no sweat, going back in the next few days. I will post more info once I got the 2 books with me. The other book records all the names of martial arts pioneers in Singapore and I am very sure I read a few Hung Gar’s names.
Thanks.

Hello SergeTk. I used to post as a guest (kriss) and finally logued in. SergeTk are you also familiar with SYSTEMA (or ROSS)? I believe it is called sometimes sambo spetsnaz. It is a russian internal martial art practiced by some of the russian special forces... weapons, stand up, grapling, health practices... I only heard about it in past few years and on other forums !

However, to my knowledge, Gang Chow Hui Guan has stopped teaching Hung Gar? I had a friend learning there while I was in secondary school, and when I expressed interest, he told me his Sifu had stopped teaching? But if they are still teaching, I will be most interested. Once again, thank you very much for your help. I wait in anticipation of hearing from you. Warmest regards, Tze Hou

I think your best bet in to find a Hung Gar Sifu and "Bai Shi" instead of looking for a club to join. Kung Fu club scene in dear old Singapore is almost completely dead. Psss...I did a little Hung Gar myself during my sec school days (many many moons) ago. One of my classmates's grandfather is a Hung Gar "lau Sifu" from Canton. Picked up a little from his grandfather. I use Hung Gar in some of my classes especially Fu-Hoc....

Hello everybody, I popped into this forum as suggested by Suhana. A little introduction. I'm a Singaporean, in Australia at the moment, pursuing my degree. I have had the honour to learn nutsoryu Karate (forgotten everything though as it was over 16 years ago), proceeded to TKD (influenced by my cousin, but gave up due to lack of interest soon after taking it up), Ngo Chor Kun (did this style for 2 years) and am currently learning Hung Gar (the style which I have always wanted). For the NCK people out there, I used to learn with the Tiong Wah Green Lion and Wushu Troupe in Singapore. Not sure of lineage as it was never discussed, but I am more than certain the line comes from GM Gam Hor Hai. I have a close friend who I occassionally train with and he is in Eng Beng (in Singapore). I hope to be able to help my fellow martial artists out if possible and look forward to your posts. Regards. Essence ni hao Glad you got my message and joined us in the "small but happy" family here A very warm welcome to you to the family Cheers.

Hi Eric, I am actually thinking along the same lines, looking for a Sifu as opposed to a school. The last person I came into contact with that was teaching Hung Gar was Master Fang Dian Wen, but when I went to his place to look for him, I think it was in 1995, he had already stopped teaching Hung Gar and was teaching Tai Chi. Anyways, please let me know if you do come across a Hung Gar sifu that you feel would make a good Sifu for me. Thank you. Warmest regards, Tze Hou

I learned Hung Gar/Choy Li Fut from Ed Lane in Las Vegas in the early 80's. My Sigung was Bucksam Kong. I have learned many techniques from him as well.
I recently got reacquainted with Sifu Lane as I live in Washington state and he has a school in Bellingham.
I know many styles of martial arts -Wing Chun and TKD, some judo and chin na techniques - but Hung Gar has always been my favorite.
In the future I plan on learning Yang style Tai Chi.
