Hello.
My name is Christian F., I work as a consultant in the UK and France.
Martial arts practiced are (filipino) Silat Asli, Wing Chun and Systema.
I travel regularly to south east Asia (mainly to the Philippines to visit my familly and train) and I am going to settle to the Philippines next April.
I would like to know more about the different kinds of chinese martial in SEA, what influence those arts had on local arts and how hybrid arts like indonesian malaysian and filipino kuntao are practiced.
Thanks for accepting me in this forum.

Hey Christian,
Welcome to our little forum.
My only contact with Silat is Kuntao-Silat De Thouars. Uncle Bill's system. I was teaching in Colorado for a while (2 years) and had the good fortune of meeting and playing with Uncle Bill.
Bob Orlando is another Indonesian Silat teacher who is a good friend. He is one of Uncle's students.
We got a member, Oldragon, who is a longtime friend of Uncle's. Maybe he could give you a better pix.
Wayne, where are you?
Ps. My main interest in Silat these days is Bangau Putih - White Crane Silat. They talk about Chinese roots.
And again, WELCOME.

If you have the political, social connection as well as influence then you should be able to get rich fast. But if you are going to be an employee then forget about it you'll get eaten alive by the human crocodiles. ;D( figure of speach ).

Well Sambo was developed for Special Forces after Russian scientists analyzed different marshal arts. Its a grappling system very similar to judo, aikido and BJJ as its a combination of this 3 plus maybe chin na from kungfu. It doesn't use legs much only when you clinched to get person off balance and to the ground.

Hello SergeTk.
I used to post as a guest (kriss) and finally logued in. SergeTk are you also familiar with SYSTEMA (or ROSS)? I believe it is called sometimes sambo spetsnaz. It is a russian internal martial art practiced by some of the russian special forces... weapons, stand up, grapling, health practices...

Hello everybody, I popped into this forum as suggested by Suhana.
A little introduction.
I'm a Singaporean, in Australia at the moment, pursuing my degree. I have had the honour to learn nutsoryu Karate (forgotten everything though as it was over 16 years ago), proceeded to TKD (influenced by my cousin, but gave up due to lack of interest soon after taking it up), Ngo Chor Kun (did this style for 2 years) and am currently learning Hung Gar (the style which I have always wanted).
For the NCK people out there, I used to learn with the Tiong Wah Green Lion and Wushu Troupe in Singapore. Not sure of lineage as it was never discussed, but I am more than certain the line comes from GM Gam Hor Hai.
I have a close friend who I occassionally train with and he is in Eng Beng (in Singapore).
I hope to be able to help my fellow martial artists out if possible and look forward to your posts.
Regards.

Hi there essence,
Good to have another Singaporean on-board lah.
Which part of Singapore do you hail from ?
Shi To Ryu - hmm do you know Robert Tan ?
Robert is a very good friend - he is now still in SKA assisting Wong. I think he is 6th dan now - big time already man!
In fact, Ngee Ngoon was here in Kuching a couple of months back together with Jason Tan - Chief of Kei Shin Kan.
We had dinner and spent hours talking about the good old days of Singapore martial arts ..you know Sebastian Soh (I heard he passed away - do you know?) Ah Joo, Ah Teck etc....
Looking forward to your postings. BTW, how old are you ? Checking to see if you are in my age group. If yes, plenty to talk about. ;D ;D ;D

Hey there Eric.
I am from the Western part of Singapore, near the University.
I think I learnt my karate under Sensei Robert Tan if I remembered correctly, it was at Dhoby Ghaut YMCA.
I did not go to lessons long enough or practice my Karate as I have completely forgotten everything though. It was a long time ago...
I am 24 years old by the way, so I don't think we're in the same age group. But you could try asking me some stuff, I always hung around the old folks in the kung fu schools and was always asking questions about the old days (seems like the 60's and 70's were the heyday of Singapore martial arts).
By the way, do you know of anyone teaching Hung Gar in Singapore? I did not have any luck with finding one for over 10 years in Singapore.
