Hi everybody, Da Jie Hao. I am starting this new thread to explore the various SanZhan, San Tsiem, San Chiem, San Chin , San Jin or whatever else you called it. So knock yourselves out and CONTRIBUTE! ;D ;D ;D I am going to start with posting a page from Fukien Tiger Boxing SanZhan - picture courtesy of Nataraya from the land of Carlsberg. Ah Pitbull,
This is the intent of this thread.
Nataraya, the Flying Dutchman, is of the belief that San Chiem crossed over to Canton and spawned some art forms there.
They don't call it San Chiem there but they do have many San Chiem like techniques.
I will try to post another pix that Nataraya sent to me in one of our earlier exchanges.
From Hung Gar but you tell me............

oooh...thanks for claryfying...im looking forward for more information,thank you both...if all westerners would just give mush dedication as our dutch friend and mr watts then kungfu is in safe hands. kungfu is a world treasure that all cultures must try to preserve,its not a chinese thing only

Hey pitbull, Well said my friend.  On the flip side, we also have .........never mind.  Okay here is the picture I mentioned previously. This is Hung Gar's Steel Wire Boxing but I am certain you know and do this technique in NCK. I do it all the time in Tai Chor :-  Arrrghhhhhhhhhhh, how do I reduce picture size  ? |

I'm tempted to quote the above picture . . . but I won't.
I'd say Isshinryu (and therefore, Gojuryu) contains the above pictured technique . . . in Sanchin, no less.
I'll try to find some postable pics of karate Sanchin (if I don't get beat to the punch) tomorrow.

That posture looks so familiar it is not funny. It really is amazing.
I have also heard of the theory that Hung Gar's Iron Wire form is derived from Sam Chien. I will have to try and track down an ex-Hung Gar player I know and see if he will show me their Iron Wire.
I have also seen illustrations of Uechi-Ryu's Sanchin and you can definitely see the relationship between it and NCK's Sam Chien.

Hi everybody,
All of you are right. The Lam Sai Weng's posture is a San Chiem standard.
In Tai Chor, this technique is found in San Chiem and Tai Chor Lohan.
The poem of this technique runs like this :-
"Kwang Kong Mo Shue , Lien Hong Hong" - phonetic.
Or roughly translated to : Lohan Stroking beard , face turning red.
Lohan stroking beard described the travel of the hands.
Face turning red indicate the intensity of the spitting.
In the pix, this technique is talked of as 1 of 12 of Hung Gar's bridge hands for countering middle and lower gate attacks.
Come on guys, more from you about your San Chiem before that crazzzzzzzzzy Dutch makes his appearence here - then it would be his show.

yes its definitely NCK sam chien standard as well...i notice how master lamsaiwing sinks his dantien and also turns his toes inwards and doing the chien be and sinking the shoulders...sinking of the dantien is for hardening the abs and for balance as well...
i will quoate what a famous NCK pratitioner said,he was training hug gar under a local master here and when he reached ti-e sien he noticed that it looks like sam chien and works somewhat like samchien..so he lost interest in learning hug gar, but if this were to happen to me ill continue with hugn gar it has more than that to hung gar...

Hi, Posting pix of another San Chiem form – Tiger Crane San Chiem. This is an uncommon form of San Chiem done in my Fuzhou Crane. The old Sifu in the pix is another of my teachers Sifu Lee Wen Shi. Tiger Crane is considered to be hard-soft San Chiem with half the form done with fist (tiger) and the remaining with open palm – crane. Sifu Lee is my only Fuzhou Crane Sifu still around – in his nineties now.     |
