Da jia ni men hao What are the qualities of a good sifu (martial arts teacher)? A champion of tournaments does not necessary will be a good sifu. So what factors are needed and required as a good sifu? I am sure this issue is important not only for the sifu but also the students. Let us talk this issue. Cheers.

Eric ni hao Yes, not sort of stuff. Don't you want to add something els e (more serious one)? Cheers. Hi Suhana, Da Jie Hao, Sorry – I thought I monkey around a little bit. Okay. Shih – Teacher Fu – Father A Shih Fu is both a teacher and a father. As a father, you would want the best for your kids in everything. As a good teacher, you would want you to teach your students to learn. Sort of like not merely giving the fish but teaching the other person how to fish for himself. The thing I remember the most about my Sifu was his patience. I am not exactly a bright student but my Sifu really spent time/effort to teach me – something I will always cherish.

A good sifu: 1. knowledge of the art he is teaching including application 2. able to teach it in a way that students are absorbing it 3. healing ability 4. moral & martial virtue 5. well established leanage.

Greetings,
I will be focusing on the knowledge passing issue since the fraternal relationship issue has been discussed well.
A good teache is able to:
1) Keep stimulating the students to learn the subject. 2) Be patience and understanding in the learning processes. 3) Understand the level of the students by somehow limiting the lesson to the current knowledge of the students. This includes encouraging students to use what he has learned. A good teacher will not be ashamed to get hit during a training session because he is limiting his level and encouraging the student. 4) Giving the students a step by step portion while also motivating the student with something a little bit advanced (guided motivation). 5) Have a master of the arts himself.

A good teacher to me is who knows how to motivate the student to move forward.
Wushu study is a long and long road.
The basic or foundation practices (Gong Fa) takes a long and long time.
A good teacher knows how to encourage the students to move beyond the boredom and have some fun.
Some young kids need to spend money, video game, racing on and on to have fun.
Nobody seems to like the practices of Wushu as fun.
Granted it is hard work like piano or guitar lessons.
Everybody enjoys the master piece music, but how many people may play them.
I can have fun with Wu Bu Quan (stance practice).
I can have fun with standing in Wu Ji Zhuang.
Because my teachers showed me how.
Cheers.

Me, honestly, I have problem with that word "fun" becuase kung fu wasnot meant to be fun it was mean't for those who are worthy to possess the martial kung fu. Whenever I hear that fun being use as a means to promote kung fu my mind see commercialism. I prefer motivation, & what motivation can we give them? we can give them a purpose to learn, an end of the rainbow purpose & for me it is to participate in tournaments both in demo & sparing tournaments that is the goal that I set for my students. Also understanding the leangae the historical link of the art that gives one a sense of reincarnated attachment with the great ancestors who founded those arts.

Da jia ni men hao For me personally, a good martial arts teacher should not teach only martial techniques. They also MUST TEACH A WAY OF LIFE. A good teacher will LEAD US TO THE RIGHT PATH, AND WILL HELP US TO BUILD A STRONG FOUNDATION FOR OUR FUTURE TRAINING. A teacher who is NOT QUALIFIED, however will not help us build a strong foundation, and MAY EVEN TEACH US MANY BAD HABITS. In addition, GOOD TEACHER WILL ALWAYS SET A GOOD EXAMPLE FOR THEIR STUDENTS WITH THEIR SPIRITUAL AND MORAL VIRTUE. Cheers.
