No contraversary here, I share the same opinions of others members of the forum.
There are many styles that offer good attributes for striking, throwing, dim mak, grappling, chin na. What is your goal, do want to learn to fight, defend onself, or to study an art form.
If you want to fight then you might want to look at styles such as western boxing, muay thai, or MMA systems. Just look at how well styles lend themselves to that way by watching television shows like "Ultimate fighting". Even people in the same style do better than others. This would indicate how well the individual's ability makes use of the style that he has learnt. If a boxing jab, or a muay thai knee, or ju-jitsu take down works best, then those techniques from that style suits the need for that situation and so make it the best.
In self defence situations it is a different ball game, there are no stops or starts or referee's interferring. But, again, it is how you train and your ability to apply the style's techniques to meet the situation. What can you bring to the situation, and make it workâeven under extreme stress. Have these techniques truely been tested in real situations, or have they been fabricated in the minds of the teachers or the students.
If you want to study an art form, many offer attributes for the potential martial artist. One needs to find one that suits you.
Comparing one style to another is non productive. Many styles were developed for a particular reasons or to achieve a goal. To fight from a long or short distance, to ground and tie someone up without necessarly doing them harm, etc.
Some styles have been in existence for hundreds of years and have been analysed and developed by many practitioners to a great degree. Depending on how well the teacher has learnt his art there should be a lot of knowledge for a practitioner to absorb in his pursuit.

"I'm simply the BEST..." (sung to Tina Turner's song) I think I am going to use this tune for background music. So everytime you logged in, you'll be reminded "I'm simply the BEST...." Luv ya Tina! Boy it feels good to be alive...... now where is my ice-cold Carlsberg?

Eric ni hao I'm not scared of Kermit the Frog, because I also practise Miss Piggy style, please keep this style a secret ok. This is the most advance style. Hmmm, I'm confuse here, which is higher, Best style or Most Advance style? Let us put an end to this ok, no more argument. The result are: 1. I am your SUHENG. You must listen to me. 2. I have seen and tried 1000 CMA. 3. I decided to practise the Best Style , which is FROG (in the well) style. 4. I am a Master Instructor in Frog Style since 1969. 5. If you disagree number 2,3,4, please read number 1. Cheers. ;D

I think you can often infer the strengths of a style from the circumstances that beget the art. Steel is forged by fire.
I agree with previous posters. If you can find a teacher that can somehow reflect the abilities and experience of the great fighters that contributed to the essense of the style. That's your best bet and thank your lucky stars.

I know that there is no best styles & that it is all about individual skill & ability to absorb the style. All I know is that I am of Wu Zu Quan and that is good enough for me.
