Hey everybody,
Need your feedback on this;
I have recently taken up the position of Traditional Chinese Kung Fu “Coaching Consultant” with the Chinese Martial Arts Association of Sarawak.
My scope, besides training WuShu athletics in Traditional CKF and conducting self-defense seminars/workshops for the general public, also cover events organizing.
One of our immediate projects is to try and put together a yearly “Traditional Martial Arts Conference Cum Workshop” here in Kuching Sarawak.
Want to hear your views on these:-
1. Would you be willing to come to this part of the world for a event like this? We are talking about an opportunity to watch and learn from Hakka/Fukien and Fuzhou Masters from pure old lines of Kung Fu styles. We are also looking at including indigenous Silats. Of course you have the added bonus of spending time in exotic Borneo. 2. What other activities would you like to be added besides martial arts / cultural shows and guided tours to native villages and famous landscapes here? 3. What is the best time of the year to be organizing a event like this?
Well folks, we are still at the drawing-board stage and your feedback will be highly appreciated.
Thank you and I hope I kick this thing off for us to meet once a year to play.

Dearc Eric,
Time schedule:
* Living in Europe, and take the holidays and expensive months in consideration, I would say: September -October- November. And; March - April - May. I would say: take the middle: October and April. I am not an organizer but just look to the schedules of schools, children and my own planning of a year.
** Activities: I think you offer a lot. When I am heading to California, I love the workouts in the parc, jacuzi at night and one day sightseeing. More then enough, van't practice martial arts too long......
*** I love to hear more about the conferences. How many days, what kind of lectures/ workshops? How many workshops? Theme's?
Eric I use to teach workshops, both on lectures as practical things. Feel free to PM me for ideas and feedback. I have some great ideas but do not know if they fit in that kind of conferences?
* I guess that most of the workshops will be given in English, or with a professional translator?
Are modern equipment (video beamers) presented?
Kindest regards,
Evert.

Well Evert,
Like I said we are still at the planning stage. We want to do this and we want to try and put together a nice holiday package with martial arts as the common denominator.
Themes? I hope to hear feedback on this. Personally, I would love to just touch hands with the Hakka and Fuzhou Sifus around here. Anything they want to show, I'll absord. We are talking "old hands" here.
English? Not a problem.
Video beamers could be worked out - no biggie.
Thanks.

Sorry, left this out:-
How many of you would be interested in performing at the conference? Show your stuff - regardless of styles or origin?
Private Message me on this one. I might have a interesting arrangement for you.
Thanks.

Hi eric, Thats a good Idea, Putting a holiday package along with martial arts training. Me and my wife and my new born will be back in Sarawak Next year. Maybe for Gawai Time or earlier. We would have come this year but we just had a little girl born in november so i think its too early to travel at the moment. If you do get people interested in the pakage we can arrange a trip for one or two night stay at our longhouse ( Nanga kesit ulu lemanak) at a fraction of the cost of the normal tour opperators.

I actually stay in the area - you know the wooden houses built for the Forestry Department ? Both groups are Wushu organizations. I am working with one of them in Tabuan Laru Family's Club. Thanks.

I would be game for that. I think that it would be worth while and an invaluable experience for me! My sifu doesnt stop talkin bout the place so i can get a first hand view on the place! Also i havent got to meet a lot of hakka practitioners and this will be a great time to meet them and experience and try soak up the heritage and culture practised for so long. As far as time goes i am very flexible also maybe i can get to stay in one of the longhouses my sifu talks about.
