Ha Ha Ha,
A very interesting conversation that I had in Singapore with some kung fu elders:-
I AM BEING BRANDED A RACIST BY MY ELDERS IN SINGAPORE!!!
Because;
• I have taught Fuzhou Crane to mainly non-Chinese Americans. • I am currently teaching Americans even here in Kuching. • I am running a forum, in English, talking about traditional CKF.
The elders spoke without malice – except that I want to be cautious who I teach, regardless of race.
They did, however, jokingly called me a racist (after many many Carlsberg) – too many non-chinese students.
Well, you know what they say; you can’t please everyone.
;D ;D ;D

let me rephrase myself by the way...i think 'racially aware' is a better term than 'racist'...apart from the difference in skin tone and dimensions,we still are the same under the skin...ITS THE UPBRINGING AND SOCIAL CONDITIONS AND EXPOSURES PLUS THE CUSTOMS that differs....

Really Pit, I don't care about skin / creed or whatever. To me a person is more than these. I look at other qualities. Top must be SINCERITY. When I was pursuing the arts, all I ever wanted was to taste the real stuff - not what you see in movies or read in books/magazines. Never thought about teaching or being next in line and all that. Even today, with only my Si-Hing and I, we are still basically like "kids". Playing with techniques and finding out new meanings to movements etc etc.. I guess it is like FAMILY - would you take a questionable person into your family ? I am positive you will not. You only admit those that you feel good about. Which bring me back to an old topic. The ceremony of "Pai Si". I know that you give this a miss because of religion but I was made to go through this with almost all my Sifus.

as for me i dont really care if a person is black white red or even green and blue so long as he shoes sincerity and GENUINE interest with the arts...it pains me to see our katas wasted or practiced in a shabby way...makes me really irritated...

something like that...its really difficult NOT to notice one's color and dimensions. but this is just flesh and skin though. a black person growing up in china is shinese and a chinese growing up in white america is american...wherefore...teaching an american(of chinese decent) should be a taboo? LOL racial discrimination is a thing of the past...it really hurts me to see how blacks are being mistreated in their own continent

Yes, personally I wish I could say that too. But we all know, that discrimination still exist . Cheers. It's a sickening thing. It's good to know, though, that there are those who choose not to discriminate based on such trivial things.

;DLOL! I guess they fear CKF will not be pure or better if taught to non-asian. As I see it there are some non-asians who respect the culture and the ways of old sifus then the asians themselves.
