I wish this year's wuzuquan competition was held in November not December near X-mass. It doesn't give me enough time to tour China. I was originally planing to spend about 2 weeks in Quanzhou, Xiamen & Beijing. My small shopping list once I get to Quan Zhou will be: 1. boxing gloves, boxing gloves here cost cda$90.00/pr, maybe in China its half the price? 2. sai ( good quality ) one that can stand heavy impact 3. some good chinese music mandarin & hokkian. 4. "tien chi" 5. kung fu uniform, short sleeves dark blue color 6. double hook 7. carbon steel chinese imperial sword. Hey, Pit if you don't mind can you be my tour guide in Quan zhou? ;D sure no problem..i can also take you to where the xiao jie's hang around ;-) it will be in november 10 and will also coincide with Konghan anniv i think or chiu chit or whatever...we just had a late xmas party w the Konghan new recruit kids....my belly is bursting... my shopping list includes: 1 a good dvd player that can play all the pirated stuf 2 a good quality whip 3 some good chinese dvd 4 xiao jie

South Shaolin Wu ZU Quan in cooperation with wu shu China have now advance their international presentation to full competition format.
Still, a lot of careful renovation, arrangements, organization & format of competition needs to be improve.
The first competition held last Dec. 18 -21 ,2004 was more a trial run, everything seem to be a little bit disorganize but, I am confident that it will improve & soon South Shaolin will really have an official status equal to wu shu.
One suggestion that I would like to present is for south shaolin to quickly ceased the opportunity to introduce weapon sparing before wu shu officially incorporate it to their format.
Also, maybe south shaolin wu zu quan can introduce a different format of sparing.
I am thinking more something like this: 1. body punching only no punching to the head 2. kicking to legs, body & head allowed 3. sweeping, tripping , leg grab & takedowns allowed. 4. elbow & knee to body area allowed.
Equipment include head gear, mouth piece & face guard, open fist (no gloves), shin guard & body armor.
The reason for the no punching in the head is becuase of the bare fist, what we will try to emphasie is the power of the bare fist punching when deliver to the body, also it will be more safer & competition friendly to prevent any serious head injuries.
In weapons competition I think it is best to narrow it down to a few weapons before expanding to other weapon types this way the organizers will have better control of the competition.
I think the competition category should as follow:
Weapon forms no wu shu weapons allowed, wu shu weapons minus points.
1. sabre 2. ta dao 3. double hand weapon any type 4. sword 5. spear 6. pole 7. kwan dao 8. mountaine trident 9. whip & chain
If there are more than 10 competitiors in each category example in pole there are 30 participants then that category should be subdivided into groups of 10, group A, B & C. The top three oif each group will advance to compete for the gold, silver & bronze.
In hand forms there should only be two categories: 1. chong hap kun 2. traditional forms, no wu shu, wu shu forms will result in minus points.
Then weapon set sparing, hand form set sparin, weapon sparing & finally wu zu sparing.
