While in Okinawa , on my recent trip , I had the oppourtunity to see the Kata Jigen No Sai trained . It is done w/ the Manji Sai . I've never known this before . Anyways , I have some footage of a Manji Sai Kata , & I would like to find out , if anyone can tell me if this Kata is the Kata , Jigen No Sai .

Hi David,
Does this kata have an under hand flip (for lack of a better description) in it? I have a manji sai kata footage on 8mm from the late 70's.
I also have a book written by Ernest Estrada entitled, Ryukyu Classical Martial Arts: Okinawan Kobudo. 1985, 1992. In it, he lists Inoue Sensei's 8 Sai Kata. The 8th one he mentions is jigen manji-sai.
Maybe this will help.
Regards, Larry

Yes , it does definately have an upward flip through out the Kata . Towards the end of the Kata he goes down on 1 knee , then stands up to finish into a Kamae .

I just watched the video. I don't think it's the same kata.
The embusen is an 'I' pattern and the beginning starts with a double strike out of the chamber followed by a double high block crossing the manji sai.
Before the upward flip, there is a low block followed by a high block same side. There is no going down on one knee also.
The kata is done by one of Estrada Sensei's students and one of Shugoro Nakazato Sensei's American students.
