Greetings all, this is my first post and I'm not sure if this question fits into the thread, but after reading Alex Co SiFu's book on NGK, he mentions the Flog as being a weapon created by the systems founder.
I was just wondering if anyone knows what this weapon looks like.
Thanks

Greetings Mr. Lim, ngo hun hao, jie, jie ni. Thank you for the warm welcome! In answer to your question, I am primarily a Wing Chun practitioner from the U.S., but have recently started practicing the art of Ngo Cho Kun in the tradition of Beng Kiam (under 1 year). As a new student to NCK, in addition to speaking to my SiFu, I have been trying to read up and find more information on the art of NCK, which brought me to this website and the book of Co SiFu. As it stands, I have already picked up alot of information on this site, thank you all. In reading Co SiFu's book, I found a reference to the double short flog and (suang tuan pian) and was wondering what the weapon is and looks like. I am a speaker of the cantonese dialect, so I'm not really sure of what the phonetical spelling means. Any help would be appreciated. Regards, SiDai

A skill set that I've always wanted to study but couldn't find the teacher - WuDang Chien. Supposedly the highest level Chien-play in the world of Kung Fu - remember Chow Yen Fat's character in "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon", he played a WuDang swordman. My kind of hero............

as per my opinion, the suang duan pien or the sai is of fujien origin. mr Co wrote that its invented by sijo Chua. i am not so sure about this. i dont want to discuss this further w mr Co bec it may just lead to conflivt of views but my view is that this weapon may be older than it is. we may safely say that sijo Chua popularized it. the sai also is a trademark weapon for NCK. our founder Dr. Lo is very good with it. he used a sai for defense and another hand holds a whip for offense. used it to fight manchurian soldiers to good effect. and for that came to know as Tiger Chu for his ferocity. he was a BIG man as some of our geriatric members recounts.
welcome by the way. Bingkiam and Konghan shared may common histories. both the founders were very good friends and townsmate and at one time studied under the same teacher as our elder told us.

Greetings Pitbull,
Thank you for the information I originally thought the translation was double short whip, but thought they maight be flexible whips and not the "hard" whip (sai). I was a bit confused because in the picture above the written paragraph, practitioners are holding a weapon and it is identified as the sai.
I guess I was just confused with the usage of two different terms to describe the same thing.
Thanks again!
Regards,
SiDai

Regards, SiDai I think you are referring to the 9 sectional steel whip? if that is the one, that was Dr. Lo YanChiu signature weapon. Imagine armed with a sai in one hand and the 9-sectional whip on the other. And fighting against manchu soldiers, now that is really more exciting than the movie "crouching tiger". "Halbred" fighting form; Double sai.
