this novel is propbably the BEST kungfu novel around...to understand chinese weapons more its a good advice to read this first...after reading some odd chapters i understood where and how many of the traditional chinese weapons came to be..like the 2x axe and the monk spade...the numbers 36 and 108 alwats appears thru out the novek as well...many of the moves names that we have in out TCMA came from this novel too...and lately i found out that the rae northern style 'wu song dbreaks away from handcuffs' came from this novel too(i havent read to wusong's chapter yet)...i bought a DVD of this novel and i hope the episodes will be true to the book. i must admit that i cant read all the time since ill be slacking in the office LOL and im lazy sometimes hehehe

So far I have only the chinese history & the romance of the three kingdoms english version. Mostly I watch vcd with english subtitles.

there are many authors/translations available...and many publishers as well...the original story was during the tang dynasty i think but the actual novel/romance was only some 900 yrs old and was based on actual people and showcased people who used and made popula the 18 traditional chinese weapons..and is the origin of many of our kata's names and weapon's being like the 2x hook the fish trident(2 prong fork) monk spade,9 sec whip etc
i think the shaw brothers also did a movie about this...it was very long almost as long as alexander or even lord of the rings...
this is a very recomended read for everyone into chinese weapons...i am goint to start reading this after some months...i just 120 chapters of the 3 kingdoms(in english) and its starting to get soo busy in the office...in my opinion when the authors translate the anmes and places in the chinese classics they should also put the original chinese text as well...
