Ha Ha Ha, Evert You are getting older and wiser. ;D All my fights happened when I was much younger and really more hot-blooded. Winning was a much desired state. Now, it is still important but not in the physical sense. Winning is about telling the truth and not letting lies prevail. Yes, it would be a wonderful if San Chiem could be the common vehicle to better understanding and fellowship for all followers regardless of colors or cultures. This, to quote you, would be the perfect world. But the real world, you and I both know, is less than perfect. I often wonder how you are going to react if the style under spotlight is not White Crane but your Hung Gar and Fa Kuen. And yes, I love to "play" still - not as hard as before maybe but the fire is still there. We are Kung Fu players and what is Kung Fu without "fighting" every now and then. Polishing my sword, my friend. Don't want it to go blunt.

"Exchanging hands" can be a very friendly gesture of friendship. If 2 musicians can play together to appreciate each other's mastery, martial artists have no other choice but "exchanging hands". Food, wine, and exchanging hands .

Food, wine, and exchanging hands . Well said my friend, very well said. "Exchanging hands" is as old as Kung Fu. It is not about winning or losing really. It is how kung fu friends bond. I like your analogy of musicians. Exactly like that, just jamming and producing beautiful music. Every "exhanging hands" should be an experience - 2 artists from different disciplines painting on one canvas. Every now and then you get a masterpiece.... That is why "exchanging hands" is refered to as "hands talking" in Chinese. I like the way Bruce Lee put in ;- When learning to swim, jump into the pool. Don't stand besides the pool and do calisthentics.

After reading the article about what Sifu Bonifacio Lim has said in the Kung Fu Magazine, I now strongly belive more than ever that sam chien is also another form of chi kung exercise in its extremest form. And its effects are very substancial in developing internal power and promoting health.
