Purely by accident - went along with a friend one night, and I was hooked. Ever since then I have not been able to stop.

Hi guys, I just like to share my own addiction to NCK. 1. The powerful public demo perform in 1976 by both Kong Han Atheltic Club under Sifu Lo King Hui & Heng Han Athletic Club under Sifu Lo King Chiok ( brother of Lo King Hui ) in Chinatown right at the middle of the asphalt street road without any mat they perform their amazing high scissor forms both individual forms & set sparings plus the weapon sparing perform with so much realism, with the baldes clashing & sparks flying. 2. The powerful forms itself, which later I would learn to be muscle tensioning in combination with speed = powerful & explosive strikes. 3. The brotherhood, the fraternal & comaderie of members base on traditional clan doctrine of loyalty & involvment in community development. That is why traditionally it is impolite to jump from one martial club to another without proper consultation from your alma mater club. As an oversea chinese ( hwa kia ) NCK brought me closer & make me understand & appreciate my heritage more than ever. I can say that I have a strong sense of loyalty

Hi Kong,
Always knew NCK folks are a closely-knitted lot - reading all your postings confirm this.
Yes, loyalty is vital in traditional arts. I had to seek consent from my Sifu before joining another style.
These days, things are different. You hear of folks jumping from one style to another easily – whatever is the latest flavor of the month maybe?
I guess this is a cultural thing – Kung Fu is family. When you join, it is usually for life. Even when to move on to another style, you are still family – you don’t forget or sever ties. When drinking water, remember the source – this is how we were taught.
Can we get you to sign up as a member?
Hope to see your contributions regularly.

Da jia hao It seems we share the same view and value here. To join a certain style is more like put yourself into a "marriage." Cheers.

Xie Xie I'm in, & true I think its the changing trend, mentality & attitude is now changing to become more self center maybe there is another way to preserve the great tradition of kung fu & I think, it is through media. Media like comic books, movies, & cultutal organization can help the now generation to understand & be more appreciative of their heritage & culture.

Hi Suhana,Konghan
Da Jia Hao,
Me - old??? Never, I shall remain forever 25 just like Hong Kong’s Alan Tam – hehehe
I think this is more a question of values – for folks like us, we studied with Sifus who were more like “fathers” and they treating us like children of their own. Training and spending time with other in our kung fu family – bonding.
After years of such bonding – ties become strong. I remember as a kid, starting out in Kung Fu, all my buddies were my Kung fu brothers and sisters.
We watch each other grow up, get married and in some cases, sadly, passed away.
So it is not a case of us mellowing – it is the way we were brought up in the old kung fu traditions.
You guys read WuXia novels – Gu Lung and Jin Yong ?
I was addicted to those for many years – all the superhuman kung fu skills, love and hate relationships, killings and seeking vendettas……..argh those were the days.

Eric and Konghan ni men hao Well I guess no one want to grow old. Don't worry, we are just become wiser not older. Yes, I also experienced same things. My sifu is my second father. As the saying "ONE DAY AS YOUR SIFU, A LIFETIME AS YOUR FATHER." The relationship with my suhengs and sutes still exist until today. Extended to their wifes and children. So for me, learning the art is not just absorbing the physical movements. It's much bigger than that. It's the cultural, family and relationship experiences. Unfortunately this type of bond is becoming less and less nowadays. Thanks to "distance learning" via books or videos Kungfu serial comics was my "addiction", once I started I won't stop until the end. Not a good habit I guess, but at that time I was so hooked. Cheers.

Eric ni hao I don't think you'll have enough space and time for that ;D But that wu xia siao suo, not merely about fighting stuff. They also contained moral values that indirectly contributed in shaping one's characters. Fortunately all imaginations (flying, gin kang, etc) only "influenced" my teenage years. Gan KL, Chin Yung, Khoo Ping Ho, to mentioned some of the writers. Cheers.
