I agree with Eric.
This thread has strayed far from its original course. We aren't even talking about the history of Wing Chun anymore. I believe Eric started this thread with the aim of discussing possible historical sources of Wing Chun, and now the thread is being used by those seeking to pump up their own fragile ego.
I for one do not want to bicker (especially with "fellow" Wing Chuners) over whether or not the system is better than any other.
If those Wing Chuners feel that strongly about it, they should go start their own forum somewhere else. I want no part of their BS.
thanks and goodnight from Seattle! chas

Da jia ni men hao IMHO, I don't think why we should put this conversation to the end. As long as it is still in the corridor of the topic. Freedom of opinion, speech please. Cheers. Suhana, Freedom is okay. Total freedom could turn into anarchy. This is a “Wing Chun History” thread. You started one for “Best Martial Arts”. So let’s show some decorum and focus on “History” here. Anyone who want to “cross-hands” and talk about “Best” can do so in your thread. Xie Xie.

Yes, the Chinese is fond of saying “ascending a mountain to learn your skills”. But in this case, I don’t remember hearing anything of this sort – I might be wrong here, speaking as a frog in a well. Beside mountains as hubs of CKF, villages, temples, opera troopes and even sailing junks are historically tied to CKF. So could it not have been a mountain but a village/town? Psssss.........I hear this rumor that there is this Fukien town by the name of Yong Chun – meaning “forever spring or young”. There is even another rumor saying that there is a White Crane style named after this town. And that on a clear day and with clear mind and eyes, one could actually see some Wing Chun in Yong Chun. Or maybe it is Yong Chun in Wing Chun……..aaaaarrrrrrrrggh

But if the participants already mabok, it's up to the Toa Pek Kong. Cheers.

The only mountain that I am facing now is understanding your point. Or is that the point; to have no point? Then can I suggest that there is no point in exploring this subject matter. Or is that the point that you are trying so hard not to point to? Please point me to the right direction Master Po. Thank you.

Ah Om,
Very deep, very very deep indeed!
The only mountain that I am facing now is understanding your point.
Or is that the point; to have no point?
Then can I suggest that there is no point in exploring this subject matter.
Or is that the point that you are trying so hard not to point to?
Please point me to the right direction Master Po.
Thank you.

My point is simply everyone will think they have a point. But, Wing Chun history is not depend on everyone's point.
But, the one thinks he has the best point will not agree with the history and will use anything to make his point.
Wing Chun is a derivation of White Crane Yong Chun and combine with the Emei 12 Zhuang. White Crane and 12 Zhuang that is how Siu Lien Tau was created.
Will anyone believe that?
I am afraid most will not. So, ok to look at everyone's point loh!

The history of Wing Chun that I am familiar with is that WC is a woman’s art. Designed by a woman for a woman. In retrospect when I analyze what I learned of the system I see this. I see it in WC's strengths and I see it in the aspects of the art that I felt did not fit me as a martial artist.
The basic jong seems to be held in a manner as if one trying to their teats (AKA boobs, knockers, titties etc…) The systems strong point to me has always been the bridging and trapping skill set. Trapping that can slow down the stronger opponent so that the physically weaker female can swiftly land her counter strikes. That is why the art is so linear.
The weaknesses I found with the system involved punching mechanics and stances. A Chinese gentleman who is a long time martial artist who sent his wife and sister-in-law to learn Wing Chun was kind enough to explain me the reasons for my issues and it all made sense to me after he was done. These are weaknesses that are weaknesses for me only because I am a man. Nonetheless what I learned from my Wing Chun teacher has been very valuable to my understanding of martial arts. It is a very good system and anything I wrote should not be taken as negative light on the system. I am just mentioning what did not work so well for me and how I think it directly correlates to the history of the method.
What I don’t understand is why there are not more women in very prominent positions in the world of Wing Chun. All the bosses seem to be men. It is a great art for a woman. My second WC teacher’s senior student was a woman and she can tear you a new one!

** May i know how you do your punching and stance which lead you to think that is WCK's weakness?
